When the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, the Say Hey kid didn’t let the change of scenery distract him continuing to be the most exciting player in the game. Mays simply did everything right, his name becoming synonymous with the phrase “5-Tool Player”. In 1959 he helped keep the Giants in the pennant race against the rival Dodgers and led the NL in steals for the 4th consecutive season. His 34 homers was 5th best in the league and he was in the top 10 in RBI, hits, doubles, total bases, and runs scored. As one would expect from one of the best hitters in the game, this bat shows tremendous game use. The R43 has a repaired handle crack three chips in its knob. Countless ball marks with stitch impressions cover the barrel and paint streaks from Mays’ taking it out of the bat rack can be seen. Small holes pepper the bats handle and there is a depression roughly 1/2” in diameter just to the left of Mays’ block letter endorsement. Several dents can be seen on the back of the barrel possibly from striking the dugout steps. PSA/DNA sticker number 1B05753 has been affixed to the barrel end to authenticate that bats game use. The factory branded Hillerich & Bradsby and “Powerized” marks have worn with time. Mays has signed the bat in green ink between the H&B brand and his block letter endorsement. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA for both signature and game use.
