Breaker of baseball’s most highly regarded record, slugging outfielder Roger Maris won back-to-back AL MVP awards in his first two seasons with the New York Yankees driving in a league-leading 112 runs in 1960, and breaking Babe Ruth’s 34-year-old, single-season record with 61 home runs in 1961. A four-time All-Star, Maris toiled for four teams in his 12-year major league career breaking in with the Cleveland Indians in 1957. He also played for the Kansas City Athletics from 1958-1959, before being dealt to the Yankees in 1960. Maris spent his last two seasons (1967-1968) with the St. Louis Cardinals, finishing his career with 275 home runs, 850 RBI and a .260 lifetime batting average. Maris used this 1967-1968, Hillerich & Bradsby model 016 bat towards the end of his career. The bat shows excellent game use with a multitude of ball marks, stitch impressions, and black ink transfers all over the barrel. Cleat marks on the barrel are also consistent with other Maris bats logged on the PSA/DNA data base (cert. #’s 1B02029, 1B02345, 1B03458). Red bat rack marks are visible on the barrel and cracked handle. Model number 016 is stamped into the knob and Maris number 9 is also written there in red marker. The bat’s 33 and ¾- ounce weight is also written on the knob in red pen. PSA/DNA sticker (#1B04532) is affixed to the barrel; comes with full PSA/DNA letter of authenticity.
