The New York Yankees were the toast of the town in the late 1990’s as they closed out the decade and the century by winning four of the last five World Series starting in 1996 and ending in 2000. One the architects of the Yankees’ dynasty was former player and executive the late Gene “Stick” Michael. Michael was instrumental in bringing the likes of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte into the fold. Those players, along with key veterans helped the Yankees get back on top. As a token of appreciation, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani presented Gene Michael with these two “Keys To The City”. Both keys are gold and have “MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI” either printed or in raised relief. One of the keys is in honor the 1996 team as marked on the key end that reads “New York Yankees World Series Champions 1996”. The other key has raised images of a pilgrim and Native American with “1625” and the Latin phrase “SIGILLUM CIVITATIS NOVI EBORACI” which translates to “Script in New York City”. These keys are good condition and come with a velvet covered presentation box that has a gold plate on the top that reads “Facsimile of Key Made in 1812 For the Door of City Hall, New York”. These items come directly from the personal collection of the late Gene Michael and a LOA from the Michael family accompanies these items.
