Hall of Famer Steve Carlton was once again the ace of the Philadelphia Phillies staff during the 1981 season. Because of the Players’ Strike, the 1981 season was shortened and ultimately split into two halves. Carlton, whose career included four Cy Young Awards, finished the full season with a 13-4 record and 2.42 ERA as he finished third in the NL Cy Young Award vote behind Fernando Valenzuela and Tom Seaver, helped lead the Phillies to the playoffs, winning the first half of the National League East with a 34-21 record. Carlton used this Louisville Slugger P89 model bat during the 1981 season. This bat displays light game use and is un-cracked. Carlton’s number “32” is handwritten in black marker on the knob and Carlton has signed his name in blue marker on the barrel adding the inscription “To Bob Best Wishes”. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19193) for the game use and has been graded a GU 7, plus a LOA from JSA for the signature.
