St. Louis Browns pitcher Ned Garver wore this brown and orange Browns hat circa 1948-52. Garver, a rookie in 1948, enjoyed the best season of his career in 1951, finishing 20-12 with a 3.73 ERA and the most complete games in the American League, with 24. Garver’s win numbers are impressive, as the Ohio native became the first pitcher in MLB history to win 20 games for a team that lost 100 or more games. Garver finished second in the American League MVP race in a commendation of his superhuman pitching effort and tidy .305 batting average at the dish. Garver made the American League All-Star squad in 1951, a year after leading the Junior Circuit in complete games (22) and ERA+ (146). In August of 1952, Garver was traded along with Bud Black, Jim Delsing, and Dave Madison to the Detroit Tigers for Vic Wertz, Don Lenhardt, Dick Littlefield, and Marlin Stuart. Garver pitched in the Major Leagues for 14 seasons, winning 129 games and holding a career ERA of 3.73.
This beautiful Browns cap features an “STL” logo sewn on the front in orange. The body of the cap is brown, while the accents and brim are orange. A Rawlings St. Louis tag is sewn on the inside sweatband. Garver’s number “31” is handwritten under the brim above his black marker autograph. This size 6 ¾ hat, originally sourced from Garver’s wife, comes with a J.T. Sports LOA and a JSA LOA.
