Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird wore this home jersey during the 1987-88 NBA season and in the playoffs, his ninth in the Association. The three-time MVP set a new career high for points in 1987-88, averaging a staggering 29.9 points per contest. For good measure, the Indiana State product added 9.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while making the ninth of his 12 career All-Star Games. Bird also achieved the rare feat of a “50/40/90” season in 1987-88, shooting over 50% from the field, 40% from three, and 90% from the free throw line in the same season. He founded the club the year prior and is one of only two players to achieve the feat more than once, along with Steve Nash.

Bird led the Celtics to the playoffs in 1987-88, defeating the Hawks and Knicks in the first two rounds. The Atlantic Division champions faced the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals, where they succumbed to the younger Pistons in a hard fought six game series. This jersey was worn during the Celtics’ playoff run.

This white jersey was worn by Bird during the 1987-88 season and has “CELTICS” arched across the chest and sewn on in green tackle twill with Bird’s number “33” on the chest below, also sewn on in green tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “BIRD” and a “33” sewn on in green tackle twill. The NBA logo is embroidered on the upper left chest. “87”, “2”LB”, Sand-Knit size 46, and “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the BOSTON CELTICS” tags are sewn on the bottom front left tail of this jersey. This jersey shows light wear with evidence of laundering and puckering of the twill letters and numbers. The NBA logo’s coloring shows to be really faded, most likely from repeated washing and Bird has signed his name in black marker below the right “3” on the back. This jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (200613E4) for the game use in the 1988 playoffs and from JSA (Z60522) for the signature.
