This interesting piece of personal memorabilia is a mounted letter signed by Hall of Fame shortstop and former American League President Joe Cronin informing Washington Senators catcher Don Leppert that he had been selected as a reserve for the 1963 American League All-Star team, (“PLAY TO WIN,” wrote Cronin in all caps.) which amounted to the highest honor Leppert would receive in his brief four-year career as a back-up catcher. Earlier in the season Leppert hit three home runs in one game against the Boston Red Sox on April 11, 1963 which might have been the reason for his selection. He hit three more home runs in the month of May and was batting .262 with 19 RBI in 44 games at the All-Star break. Leppert hit .156 in 50 games the following year and was relegated to the minors for the remainder of his professional career. The piece comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA.
