On August 18th, 1915, the Boston Braves christened the gleaming new Braves Field with a 3-1 win over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals in their first game away from Fenway Park. Hank Gowdy picked up a double and two RBI for the Braves, while the Hall of Famer Rabbit Maranville finished 2-4 and collected the third RBI for Boston. Dick Rudolph threw a complete game, striking out six, to outduel Slim Sallee and win his 13th game of the season. Braves Field was a marvel of engineering at the time with a seating capacity of 46,000 and a trolley system leading to the ballpark. The stadium was so popular the Red Sox used it for home games in the 1915 and 1916 World Series.
Offered in this lot is a program from the inaugural game at Braves Field on August 18th, 1915. Annotations made by the programs original owner synchronize with the lineups on the day, with check marks written next to the starting catcher and pitcher for both teams. This unscored program is in excellent condition and represents a long gone era of baseball.
