In 2016, Boston’s beloved DH David Ortiz wrapped up his Hall of Fame bound career in style by surpassing several baseball icons on the career home run list. Each month he surpassed another legend: in July he topped Ted Williams’ mark of 522 career home runs and in August, he passed Jimmie Foxx. Before passing Mickey Mantle, Ortiz wore this road gray Boston Red Sox jersey during the August 17th game against the Orioles in Baltimore. While wearing this jersey, Ortiz had a solid day at the plate, going 1-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored helping the Red Sox to an 8-1 victory.
This Majestic size 50 FlexBase jersey has the traditional “BOSTON” sewn on across the button-down front in Tuscan font red and navy tackle twill. The Majestic tag is screen-printed on the bottom front left tail and the Majestic team tag is screen printed on the bottom front center tail that reads “#34 ORTIZ 2016”. The back of the jersey has “ORTIZ” and his now retired “34” sewn on in red and navy tackle twill, with a vinyl MLB logo patch sewn on the upper back neck. The bottom back tail of the jersey and the sides are lined in gray mesh. The left sleeve has the hanging “socks” logo patch above the red embroidered Majestic logo. Ortiz signed his name diagonally on the “4” on the back of the jersey and inscribed “34” below his signature and added inscriptions on each horizontal side of the “3” that read “Game Used”, “8/17/16” and “Final Season”. This jersey shows light use and comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (HZ989468).
