Offered in this lot is an incredibly rare collection of yearbooks from Michael Jordan’s time at Emsley A. Laney High School from 1979 through 1982. Jordan destroyed North Carolina’s high school basketball ecosystem in his final two years at Laney, capping off his high school career with a 30-point explosion in the McDonald’s All-America Game. The first yearbook in this lot is the 1979 edition of The Spinnaker. It is blue, with a yellow stop-light design on the cover. “John Bonamo” is printed on the cover in gold text. The 1980 Spinnaker is navy, with a gold pirate design on the cover. This edition also features “John Bonamo” printed on the cover. The 1981 yearbook is blue, with “Buccaneers” 12 times in a rainbow of colors over “Buccaneers 1981” in navy. “Luray Carroll” is printed in gold on the cover. The 1982 Spinnaker, from Jordan’s final year in high school, is brown with a gold treasure chest on the cover and “The Spinnaker 1982” embossed on the front. “Joey Gniadek” is printed in gold on the front. These yearbooks feature numerous photographs of Michael Jordan. It is an incredible artifact from the early days of the basketball career of Michael Jordan!
