When the Red Sox signed J.D. Martinez as a free agent after the 2017, the team essentially secured themselves the pennant. Almost immediately after the season opened, Martinez and teammate Mookie Betts began a season-long home run rivalry that culminated in 43 for JD and 32 for Mookie. Martinez continued his home run hitting in the post season, including a Game 5 solo shot off Justin Verlander that clinched the pennant for Boston and another solo homer in the final Game 5 win over LA. J.D.’s 2018 season-used Old Hickory J143M model bat is un-cracked and displays outstanding game use. The barrel shows many ball marks with stitch impressions and white leather ball scuffs and cleat marks abound. There is a mark on the handle that identifies the grain, which has been mandatory per Major League Baseball for all maple bats manufactured after 2009, along with a moderate coat of Mota Stick is found on the handle. The bat’s length “34.0” is stamped on the front barrel and the weight “31.9” is handwritten in blue ink on the knob. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18100) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5.
