Offered in this lot is a bittersweet Type I photograph of New York Yankees icon Lou Gehrig at home plate before the 1939 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium. The Hall of Famer is gesturing wildly as he explains the rules of the exhibition game to Bill Terry, pictured wearing his number “30” New York Giants jersey. Despite his retirement after eight games of the 1939 season, Gehrig was still named to the American League All-Star team. This historic photograph has been encapsulated and authenticated as Type I by PSA/DNA (1P03556).
