After a year of playing out of position at first base, 1986 saw Mike Schmidt back home at third base. The Phillies star responded to the familiar surroundings by having one of his greatest offensive seasons, slamming a league-leading 37 home runs and 119 runs batted in. Schmidt also led the league in slugging and took home the Silver Slugger Award, a Gold Glove Award for his fielding and was voted to the All-Star Game. By the time the season ended, Schmidt was just a few home runs shy of the 500 Home Run Club, a goal he reached during the first month of the 1987 season. Schmidt’s 1986 stats earned him his third and final NL MVP Award, something no other third baseman had done before or since.

Offered here is an extremely rare Mike Schmidt game used Philadelphia Phillies St. Patrick’s Day themed uniform (jersey, pants, cap, belt and stirrups) from 1986. The jersey is a Wilson size 44 zipper-down front that is white with green pinstripes and has Schmidt’s number “20” and the 1970’s/1980’s style “P” sewn on the front in green tackle twill. The Wilson size 44 tag is sewn on the white inner placket on the back collar. The back has “SCHMIDT” sewn on in green tackle twill on a white nameplate and “20” sewn on below in green tackle twill. The sleeves and sides have green vertical stripes and Schmidt has signed his name in blue marker on the inside collar.

The pants are a matching white with green pinstripes and were also made by Wilson. The waist size is 32 and a thicker green stripe runs down each leg on the outside. The Wilson tag is sewn on the inside waist and Schmidt has signed these pants in blue marker on the inside waist band. The cap was made by United hatters Cap & Millinery and is a size Medium. This hat is all-green with the Phillies “P” embroidered on the front in white. The back of the hat has adjustable green snaps and Schmidt has signed the underside of the brim in blue marker. The stirrups and leather belt are all-green to complete the uniform set. This set is something that the Phillies have become famous for with the tradition of the rare green uniforms only used one time for that special holiday. This full uniform comes with an SGC authentication book and has graded this uniform “Superior”. There are also individual LOAs from Beckett Authentication for the signed items.
