Baseball’s original iron man, Lou Gehrig, has signed this approximate size 8 x 10-inch photograph. The New York Yankees first baseman was one of the greatest players in baseball history, hitting 493 home runs and driving in 1,995 runs during his 17-season career. Gehrig led the Yankees to six World Series titles and was instrumental in helping the team transition from the “Murderer’s Row” era to the Joe DiMaggio Yankees of the late 1930’s. Tragically, Gehrig’s career was ended by a fatal diagnosis of ALS, leading to Gehrig’s extraordinary induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939.
This photograph is one of the best Lou Gehrig photos ever seen as the shot is taken of The Iron Horse in his home Yankees’ pinstriped jersey from a close distance. The photo was taken no later than 1935 as the Yankees jersey did not feature their famous interlocking “NY” on their jerseys until 1936 and Gehrig’s jersey is absent of the “NY” in this picture. Gehrig is pictured with a smile and wearing his Yankees’ cap. Gehrig signed his name across the chest of his image in black ink. This is one of the best signatures of Gehrig you will ever see, and the authenticators PSA/DNA have agreed, grading Gehrig’s signature a GEM MT 10. This is a premier Lou Gehrig collectible that features not only a great image of one of baseball’s most beloved icons, but a flawless signature of Gehrig to go with it. This magnificent piece has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84207440) and has been graded its highest signature grade of GEM MT 10.
