Facing the Chicago Bears under the legendary George Halas, the New York Giants completely dominated the 1956 NFL Championship Game, posting a 47-7 victory. In retrospect, perhaps it wasn’t such a surprising result. While the Giants were coached by Jim Lee Howell, look no further than their coordinators to explain their overwhelming success. New York’s offensive coordinator in 1956 was none other than the legendary Vince Lombardi, while on the defensive side of the ball, the team coordinator was Tom Landry. On the playing field, Frank Gifford was named First-Team All-Pro after rushing for 819 yards – on a 5.2 average – and five touchdowns, while also posting 51 receptions, good for 603 yards and four TDs.
Presented here is a 10K gold 1956 New York Giants NFL Championship ring presented to defensive end Walt Yowarsky. This ring features a round diamond set on a large blue stone. Relief work around the perimeter reads “N.Y. GIANTS WORLD CHAMPIONS N.Y. 47 – CHI. 7”. The left shank displays an image of a football player throwing the ball, towering above a skyline. Below is the number 19. “NFL” and the number 56 appear on the opposite shank, with some wear showing next to the letter L. Inside the band is marked “DIEGES & CLUST 10 KARAT”. This ring is an approximate size 9 ¾ and weighs approximately 24.82 grams. This ring comes comes with a 2 ¾ x 2 ¾ x 2 ½ -inch wooden box and also comes with a LOA from the Yowarsky family signed by Mike Yowarsky.
