One of the most revered musicians of the 20th century, Elvis Presley brought rock and roll to masses during his exemplary recording career. Known as much for his gyrating dance moves as his resonant voice, Elvis sits atop the pantheon of great American artists. The legend of Elvis grew even more after his tragic passing at the young age of 42 on August 16, 1977.

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948 and was enrolled at L.C. Humes High School. After being shy and bullied for his first couple of years in high school, by his junior year Elvis had picked up the guitar and in his senior year he competed in the Humes’ Annual “Minstrel” show that opened the eyes of his fellow classmates and displayed his natural talent and showmanship.

Offered here is the 1953 yearbook “the Herald” from L.C. Humes High School in Memphis that features a young signature of Elvis Presley. Presley’s photograph is on page 20 and is the second photo from the top on the right column. Next to his photo is his name “PRESLEY, ELVIS ARON” and lists “Major: Shop, History, English” along with “Activities: R.O.T.C., Biology Club, English Club, History Club, Speech Club.” The King signed his name “Elvis” in blue pen with the inscription “Best everything to a Swell Girl”. A great early Elvis Presley signature before he became famous. This book is in good overall condition considering its age and does display edge and binder wear. The book has numerous signatures as one would expect from a senior yearbook. This comes with a LOA from JSA (Z41847).
