Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant wore this road purple Lakers uniform – jersey and shorts, during the 2007-08 NBA season. Bryant won his first and only NBA MVP award that year, averaging 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.8 steals in 38.9 minutes per game. Under Bryant’s veteran leadership, the Lakers won 57 games and the Pacific Division title during the 2007-08 season, blowing by the Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, and San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Playoffs. Although the Lakers would go on to win the 2008-09 and 2009-10 NBA titles, they were unable to unseat the Boston Celtics in a hard-fought, six-game NBA Finals in June of 2008. Bryant played until 2016, ending his career with a gutsy 60-point performance, as well as 18 All-Star appearances, five NBA titles, and two Finals MVP awards.
The jersey has “LAKERS” sewn on the chest in yellow and white tackle twill, with the former Lower Merion High School standout’s number “24” sewn on the chest and back in similar white and yellow tackle twill. “BRYANT” is sewn across the back shoulders in yellow and white twill. A Lakers 60th anniversary patch is sewn on the upper right chest, and a NBA logo patch is sewn on the upper left. An Adidas tag with attached size “54”, CLIMALITE, “2007-2008”, and “LENGTH +4” flags is sewn on the front left tail of the jersey. The wishbone collar and sleeve openings are ringed with a yellow band, while a yellow and white stripe runs down both sides of the jersey. This jersey displays light game use with evidence of laundering and some puckering of the twill letters and numbers.
Also included in this lot are a pair of matching purple Adidas Lakers’ shorts worn by Kobe. The shorts have yellow stripes on the sides bordered in white and have the Lakers’ “L” logo patch. The inside back waist has the Adidas tag with the NBA AUTHENTICS and Lakers’ “L” logo, along with “48”, “CLIMALITE, and “+2LENGTH” flags. Kobe’s number “24” is handwritten in black marker on the “PLAYER ID” part of the Adidas tag. The shorts display light game use with evidence of laundering. These jersey and shorts come with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (200713E1) and a LOA from D.C. Sports for game use.
