For the 1991 season, Joe Montana was looking to bounce back after dreams of a 3-peat were dashed when the San Francisco 49ers were defeated by the New York Giants in the 1990 NFC Championship game. Montana was knocked out of that game by a hit from Giants defensive lineman Leonard Marshall. The 49ers were also in a little bit of a transition themselves as they parted ways with veterans Ronnie Lott and Roger Craig, both of whom ended up with the Los Angeles Raiders. The 49ers were still a team to be reckoned with, especially with Joe Montana behind center.

Unfortunately for Montana and the 49ers, Montana picked up an elbow injury in preseason and was held out of the last preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. At the time it was announced Montana had a minor elbow injury, but soon thereafter, the minor injury turned into a season-ending injury as Montana would not suit up for the Niners that season. That’s what makes this offered Joe Montana jersey very special. Montana wore this white mesh jersey during the first game of the 1991 preseason on July 27, 1991 in a game at the Los Angeles Raiders. Montana and the Niners won 24-17.

This white mesh jersey is a Wilson size 46 with Montana’s number “16” sewn on the front, back and sleeves in red tackle twill. The Wilson tag is sewn on the front left tail with a “46” flag attached. The back has “MONTANA” sewn on in red tackle twill on a matching white nameplated. The sleeves have three red screen-printed stripes and the collar is a white V-neck style. Montana has signed this jersey vertically in black marker on the “1” on the back. This jersey comes with a LOA from Joe Montana, stating that he wore this jersey during the 1991 preseason game against the Los Angeles Raiders and a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signatures. Please note that the Joe Montana LOA is not being posted online, but is available to view upon request.
