Sometime in 1925 Connie Mack began hearing of a teenage mound of muscle breaking outfield fences in a little minor league circuit in Western Maryland. When the stories proved true, Mack bought the 17-year-old man-child and put him in a Philadelphia Athletics uniform. That man was Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx and Mack broke the boy in gradually, playing him in the outfield, then catcher before installing him at first base. Even though not yet out of his teens, Foxx hit big league pitching at a .300 clip.

By the 1930 and 1931, Foxx was already playing in his third and fourth full seasons and was beginning to showcase the power that would see him finish 534 home runs and winning three MVP Awards on his way to induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951. Foxx during the 1930 and 1931 seasons hit 37 and 30 home runs with 156 and 120 RBI respectively as he was assuming the mantel of one of the American League’s premier talents.

This Hillerich & Bradsby pre-model bat was used by Foxx and has been dated to the 1930-31 seasons. This bat displays tremendous use with slight checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact on the barrel. There are numerous ball marks, stitch impressions on the left and back barrel, along with cleat imprints that can be seen on the right, left and back barrel. One of the nicest early-career gamers from “Double-X” and it comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B11540), who have graded this bat a solid GU 8. Please note that the authentication sticker is attached to the LOA and not the bat.
