While the ultimate goal for Major League Baseball players is to get to and win the World Series, the Major League umpire also desires to ply his profession during the Fall Classic. The umpires in Game 2 of the 1963 World Series signed this game used ball from that game, a 4-1 Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the New York Yankees. Johnny Podres and Ron Perranoski combined on a seven-hitter in silencing the Yankee bats. This OAL Cronin ball has been signed by Tom Gorman (“6”) on the sweet spot (HP ump), John Rice (“5”), Larry Napp (“6”), Tony Venzon (“6”), Joe Paparella (“7”) on the label, and Shag Crawford (“5”). All signatures have been penned in black ink, except for Crawford who penned his signature in red ink. The ball shows nice evidence of game use with light stains and scuffs while the stampings are somewhat on the light side. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication, cert number B23427.
