Julius Erving revolutionized the NBA with his innovative above the rim play. As a member of the ABA's Virginia Squires he legitimized the upstart league until it merged with the NBA in the 1975 - 76 season. He led the Squires, NY Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers to championships, and is the only player to ever have won MVP awards in both the ABA and NBA. This May 31, 1982 SI displays a grimacing Dr. J slamming home a dunk against the Celtics Robert Parish and Chris Ford in the NBA playoffs. Titled "Take That, Boston! /Dr. J Jams the Jinx" the cover story recounts the Philadelphia 76ers game-seven victory over the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. Erving boldly signed in black Sharpie across his image's torso (grade 10). A COA from PSA/DNA (#K32660) accompanies this item and authenticates the autograph.
