Presented is the 1949-1950 Philadelphia “City Champions Men of LaSalle Award” presented to Basketball Hall of Famer Tom Gola. A Philadelphia, PA native son, Gola was praised as a great all-around player as a high school student at La Salle College High School, where he led the Explorers to a Philadelphia Catholic League Championship in the 1949-1950 high school basketball season. The 4½ x 15-inch gold metal and black plastic trophy features a 7-inch gold metal figure of a boy playing basketball with the ball raised high in his right hand. The statue is atop a 4½-inch gold metal base engraved in black with the legend “City Champions Men of LaSalle Award T. Gola 1949-50”, with a 3¼-inch black plastic base. Please note that the engraved gold metal base has some scratches at the top center, while the black plastic base has some fingerprints and white paint stains.
