Offered is basketball legend Tom Gola’s “Certificate of Election” to the “Basketball Hall of Fame” dated 1975. The 12¾ x 16¾-inch brown wood plaque features a laminated red, white, blue, black and gold printed certificate at the center, with a black & white head & shoulder photograph of Gola in a Philadelphia Warriors uniform in the top center and the legend “Certificate of Election Basketball Hall of Fame Thomas J. Gola has been elected by the Honors Committee of the Hall of Fame as Player” with “1975 Date of Election”. At the bottom center is an illustration of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Hall board of trustees president and former NBA commissioner J. Walter Kennedy signed his name in black pen in the lower right. Nicknamed "Mr. All-Around" by his LaSalle coach and fellow Hall of Famer Ken Loeffler, Gola was a Philadelphia folk hero. A celebrity at Philadelphia's La Salle High School, Gola spurned hundreds of collegiate scholarship offers from across the country to play locally at LaSalle University. Gola, the first modern, four-time college All-America, was named the 1955 College Player of the Year. Often considered one of the greatest college players ever, he was the first player in collegiate history to score over 2,000 points and grab over 2,000 rebounds. Upon enshrinement, he was the NCAA's all-time leading rebounder. Gola enjoyed a ten-year NBA career with the Philadelphia Warriors, San Francisco Warriors, and New York Knicks. He is one of a select group of players to win an NIT, NCAA, and NBA title.
