The Babe loved kids. More or less abandoned by his parents, as an adult Ruth went out of his way to make his young fans feel special and was always on hand to offer budding ballplayers his sage advise. Walking to the ballpark one afternoon, The Babe spotted little Ray Kelly playing catch with his father. Within an instant, the Bambino had adopted the adorable youngster as his little assistant and sidekick. On Opening Day at Yankee Stadium in 1923, The Babe and little Ray were photographed together in what would become one of the most iconic images of the ballplayer. It’s the perfect image to be coupled with the wonderful advice and autograph from The Babe. Signing in fountain pen the Bambino writes to a young fan: “Keep on hitting that ball and you will be tops. From Babe Ruth”. The cut autograph measures 5 1/2” x 2 1/2”. The print
of Ruth and Ray Kelly measures 9” x 12” and the whole piece is beautifully framed and matted to 15 1/2” x 22 1/4”. Letter of Authenticity number X77921 from JSA.
