Two lineup cards from distinctly different periods in the history of the Cincinnati Reds; the first dated 6-7-75 was written by Reds Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson with a batting order reading as follows: Pete Rose, Ken Griffey, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, Dan Driessen, Cesar Geronimo, Dave Concepcion, George Foster and Jack Billingham, reserves are listed in the also eligible column on the right. Rose doubled and scored in the Reds 8-1 victory over the Cubs at Riverfront Stadium. Signed by Anderson at the bottom, this lineup was written at the height of the “Big Red Machine” including Hall of Famer’s Morgan and Bench, as well as exile Rose and a smattering of All-Stars, the 1975 Reds would go on defeat the Boston Red Sox in an extraordinary seven-game World Series and sweep the New York Yankees in four straight in 1976. The second card dated 5-18-88 was written by Tommy Helms, filling in for Rose who was serving a 30-day suspension administered by then National League President Bart Giamatti “For forcefully and deliberately shoving an umpire,” after Rose argued a safe call at first base made by umpire Dave Pallone during an April 30, game at home against the N.Y. Mets. The May 18 lineup reads: Kal Daniels, Jeff Treadway, Barry Larkin, Paul O’Neil, Buddy Bell, Dave Concepcion, Gary Roenicke, Terry McGriff and Pitcher Ron Robinson, reserves are listed in the also eligible column on the right. These cards are carbon copies of the originals. The Reds defeated the Atlanta Braves at Riverfront Stadium that day by a score of 8-4.
