Graded 82 EX/MT+ 6.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This is the lone example at its tier (with none graded higher) among a total of 11 copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Here's one of the most appealing, close-up depictions in the Bond Bread issue, seen in an extremely favorable state of preservation. Excellent to Mint-plus condition.
This collectible hails from an extremely scarce, 13-card production of Jackie Robinson baseball cards that was sponsored by Bond Bread and distributed during a three-year period starting in 1947. The Bond-Robinson issue is a release that is regarded as one of the most challenging regional sets ever made, a series that saw primary distribution in the New York area but which may have had exposure in a couple of other markets. Its entire subject matter is devoted to the Brooklyn Dodgers' Jackie Robinson, the first African-American player in Major League Baseball history. Robinson broke the color barrier in a sport that had been segregated for more than a half-century, and the Bond Bread issue stands as an enduring commemorative tribute to his legacy.
