In 1991, the Minnesota Twins won their second World Series in The North Star State, defeating the Atlanta Braves in a classic seven game World Series that was won on the last at-bat. Led by Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett and a pitching staff of Jack Morris, Kevin Tapani, and Scott Erickson, the Twins won 95 games and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in a five-game ALCS. The 1991 World Series is regarded as a modern classic, as three of the games went to extra innings. Game 7 was especially tense, as Jack Morris dueled John Smoltz in the deciding game. Morris came out on top, throwing a 10-inning complete game shutout, as Gene Larkin’s walk-off single gave Minnesota its second Commissioner’s Trophy.

The Twins were also led by rookie Chuck Knoblauch, whose debut season in 1991 earned him the American League Rookie of the Year. With a solid .281 batting average in the regular season, Knoblauch stepped up his game batting a lofty .350 during the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays and added 8 more hits in the World Series while batting .308.
