Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. bade farewell to old Memorial Stadium in 1991 by hitting .323 with a career-high 34 home runs. Arguably Cal’s finest offensive season, the Orioles superstar earned his second American League MVP Award. Ripken continued to edge closer to Lou Gehrig’s consecutive streak record as the next milestone was reached on July 19th, 1991 against the Seattle Mariners at Memorial Stadium. Ripken hit his 20th home run of the 1991 season as the Orioles defeated the Mariners 4-1.
Offered here is the Baltimore Orioles’ cap worn by Ripken during his 1,500th consecutive game played on July 19th, 1991. This all-black New Era Major League Pro Model wool cap features a six-panel crown and black brim. The Orioles’ oriole bird logo is embroidered on the front in orange, black and white stitching. The green underside brim has Ripken’s number “8” handwritten in black marker and “G” to the left and “1500” to the right, also written in black marker. The white inner lining has the New Era tag and 7 3/8 flag. Ripken has signed his name in silver marker on the top brim and this hat displays moderate game use. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a LOA from Cal will accompany this milestone hat.
