Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr.’s penultimate season in the Major League concluded on October 1st, 2000 when the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 7-3 at Camden Yards. Ripken closed out his season in style, going 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a walk to help lead the O’s to victory. Ripken would finish the 2000 season with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and a .256 average. Offered here is the very batting helmet used by Ripken on October 1, 2000 against the Yankees. This all-black helmet was manufactured by American Baseball Cap Co. and is a size 7 3/8. The front has the Orioles oriole bird logo sticker affixed and the left ear has a flap. The back of the helmet has Ripken’s number “8” sticker in orange with white borders and the MLB logo sticker in Orioles colors. There are remnants of an “8” that was originally put on incorrectly and removed. It covers part of the MLB logo. The inside padding is still intact and also on the inside are the size 7 3/8, Diamond Collection and Warning stickers. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a LOA from Cal will accompany this helmet.
