September 15th was one of the many special days in the Hall of Fame career of Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr. Ripken connected on his 18th home run of the season against Toronto Blue Jays pitcher David Wells at Skydome in the top of the fifth inning, which was also his 222nd career home run and an American League record 214th home run as a shortstop. This offered Official American League Bobby Brown baseball was the very ball Ripken hit for his milestone home run. Despite losing 4-3 to the Blue Jays, this game also marked the first time that both Ripken’s (Cal and Billy) homered in the same game – in fact they homered in the same inning with Billy’s home run leading off the inning and Cal’s coming three batters later. This ball displays outstanding game use with dirt stains and abrasion marks throughout. Cal has signed this baseball on the north panel with the sweet spot having been inscribed “Sept 15, 1990 vs Toronto HR #214 As SS AL Record”. The south panel also has been inscribed “Pitcher David Wells Skydome First Time Billy + I Homered In Same Game”. This ball comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA will accompany this milestone baseball.
