Cal Ripken, Jr. said goodbye to Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium by recording his finest season in the old ballpark. The Orioles icon belted 34 home runs with a .323 average while claiming his first Gold Glove Award. In that summer’s All-Star Game, Cal went 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer that earned him the game’s MVP Award. By the end of the season, it was only natural that the O’s Iron Man should have the AL’s MVP Award bestowed upon him as well, the second such honor of his Hall of Fame-bound career.
