While Cal Ripken, Jr. received tremendous accolades when he broke Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130 consecutive games played, there was actually still one more record that needed to be broken to be the true Iron Man – that of Japanese league star Sachio Kinugasa. Cal tied that record on the night of June 13, 1996 when he played in his 2,215th consecutive game. Offered here is the very bat Ripken used during the June 13th, 1996 game. This Louisville Slugger P72 model bat displays outstanding game use with a crack on the handle. There are ball marks, stitch impressions and white leather scuffs present on the barrel. The knob has white tape with Ripken’s number “8” handwritten in black marker. Across the back barrel is a piece of athletic tape that has “2215” handwritten in black marker. Ripken has signed this historic game in silver marker on the barrel and inscribed “2215 Ties Sachio Kinugasa”. This bat comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA will accompany this historic bat.
