Hall of Famer and baseball’s Ironman Cal Ripken, Jr. used this Louisville Slugger P72 model bat during the August 23rd, 2001 game at Tropicana Field in Tampa. The Iron Man got a hit and RBI during the 7-4 Oriole win, as he singled to center field off Devil Rays pitcher Nick Bierbrodt in the top of the fifth inning that drove in Jerry Hairston from third base. Before that RBI single, Ripken used this Louisville Slugger P72 model bat for the final time when his second at-bat resulted in a fielder’s choice. This bat displays outstanding game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, cleat imprints and white leather scuffs present on the barrel. A piece of white athletic tape is wrapped around the barrel end that has handwritten in black marker “Stopped Using After 2nd AB 8-23-2001”. This bat has recently been signed by Cal in bold silver marker on the barrel and comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this item. This bat also comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B24144) for the game use and has been given the highest possible grade of GU 10.
