Hall of Famer and baseball’s Ironman Cal Ripken, Jr. used this Louisville Slugger P72 model bat during the September 20th, 2001 game against the Toronto Blue Jays at SkyDome in Toronto. Ripken used this bat for the final time when he broke this bat during his first at-bat which occurred in the top of the second inning when he grounded out to second base off of Blue Jays pitcher Chris Carpenter. This bat displays outstanding game use with a crack on the handle from Ripken’s second inning at-bat. There are ball marks, stitch impressions and white leather scuffs present on the barrel. A piece of white athletic tape is wrapped around the end of the barrel that has handwritten in black marker “9-20-01 Broken 1st AB VS Carpenter”. This bat has recently been signed and inscribed "9/20/01" in bold silver marker on the barrel and comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this item. This bat also comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B24158) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9.5.
