In 1982, Hall of Famer and baseball’s Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr. began his consecutive games played streak that would ultimately see him become the all-time leader at 2,632 games. 1982 was also the season where Ripken showcased his talent to the rest of the league as he earned the American League Rookie of the Year Award by hitting 28 home runs and having 93 RBI. As a result of his achievements, Ripken was presented this 26-inch tall trophy from the Maryland Professional Baseball Players Association. This trophy has a baseball player on top depicted in a full swing. The player is mounted on top of a covered chalice, all colored gold and that is mounted on a 6 x 6 x 5-inch wood base. The front has a black plate that has etched in gold “Cal Ripken, Jr. Baltimore Orioles 1982 AMERCIAN LEAGUE ROOKIE OF HE YEAR Avg. 264 H.R. 28 R.B.I. 93 Presented January 14, 1983 Maryland Professional Baseball Players Assn.” This trophy is in excellent condition and comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item.
