1983 was a banner season for the Baltimore Orioles and Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. The Orioles won the World Series, which is to-date, the last time the franchise has won the Fall Classic and Ripken was the American League MVP. In honor of the Orioles’ and Ripken’s achievements, the County of Harford issued and official proclamation declaring the week of November 1st – 7th as “Baltimore Orioles and Team Members Ripken Week”. This proclamation has been signed by the six district council members, along with the Council President, County Executive and attested by the Secretary to the County Executive. A gold seal of Harford County with yellow and blue ribbons, appears on the lower center. The proclamation reads “WHEREAS, the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Team has proven, through intense competition, to be the finest baseball team in the entire world; and WHEREAS, by virtue of their victories over the Chicago White Sox in the American League playoffs, the Baltimore Orioles have earned the title of 1983 American League Champions; and WHEREAS, by virtue of their four victories over the 1983 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies, the Baltimore Orioles have earned the title of 1983 World Champions; and WHEREAS the success of the Baltimore Orioles was attributable, partly, to the astute coaching of native Harford Countian Calvin Ripken, Sr., and to the superb lay of native Harford Countian shortstop Calvin Ripken, Jr.; and WHEREAS, the games of the Baltimore Orioles were attended by thousands of residents of Harford County, Maryland; and WHEREAS, the baseball fans of Harford County take great pride in the accomplishments of Coach Ripken, Shortstop Ripken, and the entire Baltimore Orioles organization. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the County Executive and County of Harford County, Maryland, do hereby proclaim the week of November 1-7, 1983 as BALTIMORE ORIOLES AND TEAM MEMBERS RIPKEN WEEK”. This award is in good condition with some blemish marks and has been framed to a dimension of 17 x 20 inches. This comes with a signed LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr.
