Hall of Famer and baseball’s Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr. broke the unbreakable record when he passed Lou Gehrig on the all-time consecutive game’s played streak in September of 1995. In recognition of this milestone accomplishment, the Maryland State Senate adopted a resolution honoring Ripken’s passing of Gehrig’s record. The resolution reads “Resolution Be it hereby known to all that The Senate of Maryland extends congratulations to Cal Ripken, Jr., a very special citizen of our state and an inspiration to our youth, who, through strong personal resolve and commitment to his profession, set a new major league record of consecutive games played – 2,153 to date – and extends its appreciation for his extraordinary contributions to our community and to our great national pastime.” The sponsor of the bill was “President and All Members” and the Resolution was dated February 19th, 1996. A gold seal with yellow and navy ribbon are on the bottom left corner and “STATE OF MARYLAND” is printed in red at the top. This piece has been framed to a dimension of 12 ½ x 16 ½ inches comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item.
