With Cal Ripken, Jr. announcing that 2001 would be his final season, opposing cities paid tribute to one of the greatest ballplayers to grace the field. Ripken played his last ever game at Boston’s fabled Fenway Park on September 27th, 2001 in front of 32,719 fans. Ripken worked a walk in this game and scored a run as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Red Sox 4-2. Offered here is one of the game used bases given to Ripken following the game. This Schutte base has Ripken’s number “8” in big font across the top in orange with black borders. Two sides have Ripken’s number “8” in panels with one other side having “BOSTON RED SOX 1901 2001” and the opposite side having the MLB logo. This base displays outstanding use with numerous dirt stains and abrasion marks. Underneath the base is handwritten in blue marker “Boston 9/27/01”, along with “Boston” in black marker and “3” in black marker. The metal anchor is still attached with silver duct tape wrapped on the end attached to the underside of this base and this comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item. There is also an MLB Authenticated hologram (GT00040423), which authenticates that this base was used during “Ripken Farewell Game 9/27/01”. Please note when looking up this hologram in MLB’s website you must use GT040423.
