Huge 47” x 41” matted-framed display includes eleven 3.5” x 5.5” Perez-Steele postcards of the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural Induction Day class of 1939. Included are Connie Mack, Nap Lajoie, George Sisler, Tris Speaker, Grover Alexander, Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Eddie Collins, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson and Ty Cobb, with signatures of all 11, surrounding a 10” x 13” photo of the group taken that day. On a historical note, the only player missing form this photo is Cobb, who was delayed getting to Cooperstown for the Induction. (We believe former Manager Mack fined him.) Ruth, Mack, Lajoie, Sisler and Collins signatures are bold fountain pen ink cuts. Wagner and Cobb signatures are on cancelled checks from their own accounts, Alexander’s is on a 3” x 4” photo in blue ink with the inscription; “Best of Luck to Buzzy and Don.” Speaker’s is on a personal COA and includes “Mgr. Cleveland BB Club” and “April 19, 1921” date; Young’s is on a 2” x 4.5” photo, and Johnson’s is cut applied to a 1939 First Day Cover cache, “Commemorating 100th anniversary of Baseball America’s National Game” with Cooperstown, NY post mark dated, June 12-9 AM 1939 (the date of the historic first Hall of Fame induction). Matted in red and framed in museum quality metallic gold gilding; comes with full PSA/DNA letter of authenticity E50593. This is a tremendous piece which includes all the inaugural members of the Hall of Fames first induction class, including many of the best players in baseball history.
