Despite the many additions to the 500 home run club in recent years, Mike Schmidt’s 548 dingers still rank 15th on the all-time list. Schmidt led the National League in home runs eight times, hitting a career-high 48 in 1980 and had his last great season in 1987 when he hit 35 home runs with 113 RBI at a .293 clip. This Adirondack/Rawlings model 154A bat was used by Schmidt during the 1987 season and it looks like he got a few good knocks with it before a crack removed a big part of the handle. Ball marks and stitch impressions can be seen and felt around the barrel which also reveals red bat rack paint and cleat marks. Pine tar has been applied where Schmidt would grip the bat at the handle and up close to the label. The model number and order date are stamped into the knob where Schmidt’s number “20” and the bat’s “32”- ounce weight are also written in black marker. Schmidt signed the bat in bold blue Sharpie underneath his facsimile signature on the barrel branding. Contains dual PSA/DNA authentication stickers for the bat (#1B05778) and signature (#U69451) and full PSA/DNA letter of authenticity.
