The Babe Ruth signature is the pinnacle of the collecting hobby as the combination of Ruth’s greatness, along with his flowing signature make’s any Ruth signed item a true keepsake. Even more rare than a “Babe Ruth” signed baseball or bat or any other item, is one where he signs his full name and leaves out “Babe”. Items such as this offered New York Yankees ledger sheet from 1936 puts this item in a class by itself. 1936 was a significant year for Ruth as he was part of the first ever induction class of the newly formed National Baseball Hall of Fame that included what would be the eventual inaugural class of Ruth, along with fellow inductees Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson and Honus Wagner.
Ruth had only been out of baseball for a year when this offered ledger sheet was drawn up. Ruth, who spent his playing career with the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Boston Braves from 1914 to 1935, was adjusting to life in retirement. This ledger is something to behold. What pops out immediately is the bold black pen full signature “George Herman Ruth”. A definite sight to behold as the front of this sheet has dates of “Mar. 4, April 23, May 19, Aug 13” and goes into 1937 with “Jan. 1” and “Mar. 6”. This ledger sheet was created on lined paper that has been marked in pencil and in red pen with various notes throughout. This stunning piece has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84151860) and has been graded AUTHENTIC.
