The Dodgers’ popular first baseman Gil Hodges has boldly signed this postal card in black ink somewhat larger than usual and with an attractive flair to the characters. This particular postal card is significant as the postmark on the back of the card has a date of January 8, 1948, the eve of Hodges’ first full season in Brooklyn and thus considered his rookie year. The original owner has typed Hodges’ full name along the top of the card as well as the date of his death in 1972. The card has a warm aged color to it and the ink signature is strong and fresh. Back has the usual return address, stamp postmark and torn paper where the certified slip was once placed. PSA/DNA has graded this rookie signature a Mint 9.
