Legendary NBA coach and front office guru Red Auerbach was rarely seen without his trademark stogie between his lips or fingers. On September 22, 1997, two days after his 80th birthday, the architect of the Celtics' dynasty was gifted this celebratory wooden humidor whose top reads: "The Committee to Celebrate Red Auerbach's Eightieth Birthday is pleased to invite you to attend a dinner in his honor for a select group of his personal friends Monday, the twenty-second of September Nineteen hundred and ninety-seven at six o'clock The Algonquin Club 217 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, Massachusetts." There's a gold-tinged Celtics logo at the bottom and gold head-and-shoulders illustration of Auerbach at the top, right near where the icon signed in bold black Sharpie (9/10). The humidor measures 8.5" x 6.5" and boasts a green velvet interior, as well as an unwrapped cigar, perhaps one of Red's own. There's one scratch mark at the top edge and some minor scratching but otherwise appears EX-MT. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
