Joe “Ducky” Medwick broke in with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1932 and played 17 seasons with stops at the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants and Boston Braves. He was a 10-time All-Star and earned the 1937 MVP award from the Baseball Writers of America Association. He finished his career with 2,471 hits and a .324 BA. The Veterans Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame in 1968. Medwick was coming off his MVP season in 1937 when he swung this stick as this offered Hillerich & Bradsby pre-model bat has been dated to Ducky’s 1938 and 1939 seasons.

Despite not winning the NL MVP in those two seasons, Medwick did lead the National League in doubles (47) and RBI (122) in the 1938, while posting two solid batting averages of .322 and .332 in 1938 and 1939 respectively. This Hillerich & Bradsby bat displays outstanding game use with a slight crack in the handle that has been repaired. There are many ball marks present on the left and back barrel which is significant as PSA/DNA has opined that this bat “displays a concentrated contact area on the left barrel that is perfect for Medwick, a right handed hitter.” Other marks on the bat include blue bat rack streaks and cleat marks. Medwick’s number “7” was handwritten on the knob in fading laundry marker. Medwick gamers are extremely rare, with only less than a handful ever hitting the open market. This is one of them and it dates to his most productive seasons of his Hall of Fame career. This comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B04647) for the game use and has been given a high grade of GU 8.5.
