A master at the plate, Tony Gwynn finished his 20-year career with 3,141 career hits, good for 19th on the Major League Baseball’s all-time list. Gwynn also won an astounding eight batting titles during his Big League career, tied for second all time behind some guy named Cobb. This signed gray, button-down 1998 San Diego Padres road jersey features Tony Gwynn’s signature in silver ink across the “1” on the back of his number “19” jersey. Gwynn wore this jersey in a 4-2 loss to the Montreal Expos on August 1, 1998, when he went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and a RBI. Gwynn and the Padres would go on to win the National League pennant before falling to the Yankees in the World Series. The jersey features “SAN DIEGO” across the front and Gwynn’s number “19” on the back in navy blue-and-white on orange tackle twill. “GWYNN” appears across the back of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill. The front tail of the jersey features a RUSSELL ATHLETIC” manufacturer’s tag with size “50” and “#2897 8-1-98” written in black marker to indicate Gwynn collecting hit No. 2897 on Aug. 1, 1998 against the Expos. Above the manufacturer’s tag is “Mont 8-1-98” written in black marker on the jersey indicating the opponent and date of use for the jersey. The left sleeve of the jersey features a stitched San Diego Padres logo patch while the right sleeve features a stitched navy blue Russell logo. LOA from MEARS grading jersey as 'Authentic', and a COA from PSA/DNA, cert number U77444 for the signature.
