As a member of the Yale Bulldogs, playing for the great Walter Camp, Amos Alonzo Stagg was elected to the first ever college All-American football team in 1889, and ended up with a tremendous football resume including dozens of innovations. However, his sport history was not limited to the gridiron as Stagg also pitched for Yale (turning down pro baseball offers), and also played in the first ever public game of basketball in 1892 at Springfield College. He is a member of the College Football and basketball Hall of Fames. In 1927, Stagg wrote the book "Touchdown!" of which this lot is composed of two volumes. Includes - 1) a first edition with maroon cover. Excellent condition. 2) a first edition (Reprinted September 1927 - same month as originally printed), signed and inscribed "To Major A.M. Weyand - With best wishes form Amos Alonzo Stagg - Sept. 14, 1936". Very Good condition. Weyand was a former teammate of Dwight Eisenhower's at Army, was a three-time All-American and also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Perfect signature in black fountain pen.
