For the seventh straight season of his Hall of Fame career, Cal Ripken, Jr. was selected to the American League All-Star team. Ripken would finish the 1989 season with 21 home runs and 93 RBI as the former American League Rookie of the Year and AL MVP continued to be the premier shortstop in the Junior Circuit. Offered here is the certificate received by Ripken from The Sporting News for his selection to the American League All-Star Team. This 8 ½ x 11-inch tan certificate reads “The Sporting News Certificate of Award Presented to Cal Ripken Jr. Baltimore Orioles In Recognition of His Selection to The Sporting News 1989 American League All-Star Team” and has been signed by Richard Waters, the then-President of The Sporting News. Please note that the “C” in Cal, the “Jr.”, “American”, “Lea”, “e”, “All S” and the “a” and part of the “m” in Team is stuck to the plastic that has secured this item. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item.
