Presented is a circa 1911-1912 S110 “Generals” large premium silk pillow top, which include images of military masterminds Napoleon Bonaparte, U.S. Grant, Robert E. Lee and George Washington joining with 19th century icon Buffalo Bill Cody. Measuring 22-3/4 x 23”, this delicate tapestry is accentuated by an arrangement of military equipment and further crowned by the “Statue of Liberty.” It was available for quite a load of Helmar tobacco coupons. The individual images (which are similar to the smaller S76 premiums), are bordered with red factored prepared "X's" but are not actually stitched. With stars in the corners, and gold bordered rope-style braided accents, the entire piece was manufactured as a pillowcase top, one of the many in home activities of that generation. The fragile fabric displays mailing compacting folds associated with such issues along with expected fraying (although very light compared to large pieces such as this) along the left and right edges. Additional fabric creasing and mild surface toning does not disrupt the visual appeal. Ideal for the military collector or non-sport enthusiast, this item could be attractively matted and framed to produce one very nice conversation piece.
