Presented here is a Presidential Appointment signed by the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln presided over a country divided, and he oversaw the undertaking of restoring the Union that had been torn asunder by the Civil War. Lincoln would free the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation and see the war come to its conclusion when General Lee surrendered to Genera Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia on April 9th, 1865.
Lincoln signed this Presidential Appointment that assigned a George O. Judd to the level of Captain of the Veteran’s Reserve Corps of the Army. The signed document features the seal of the President of the United States intricately printed at the top of the document. The Seal of the Secretary of War is beautifully printed on the bottom of the document. A faded blue stamp was applied to the document. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton signed the bottom of the document with black ink, and President Lincoln signed the opposite bottom side of the document in black ink. The document, a picture of Lincoln, and a black plaque with the gold inscription “ABRAHAM LINCOLN 16th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MARCH 4 1861-APRIL 15 1865” rests upon a cream matte housed in a beautiful 28x32-inch frame. The signed Presidential Appointment comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication.
