From the personal collection of Hall of Famer and baseball’s Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr., this offered Louisville Slugger P72 model bat was used during the October 2nd, 2001 game between the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays at Camden Yards in Baltimore. This game was originally scheduled for September 12th as the September 11th attacks postponed the MLB season for 10 days. This bat displays outstanding game use and is un-cracked. There are numerous ball marks, stitch impressions and white leather scuffs present on the barrel. There also appears to be some light checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact that is also on the barrel. There is a light coating of pine tar on the lower handle and Ripken has tagged this pat with a piece of athletic tape that is located by the Louisville Slugger trademark on the lower barrel. The tag reads “Game Bat Starting 10-2-2001”. Please note that the tape is loose on both ends, but is adhered to the bat from the middle. One of the last bats ever used in the storied career of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this bat. Additionally, there is a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B24817) for the game use and has been given the highest possible grade of GU 10.
